**Important Note**
  1. BUYERS beware of irreputable breeders selling sick animals, many are from Mexico. This is mostly happening in border states. They will meet you at a park or parking lot, give you the animal, take your money and then they are gone. You have no way of returning the sick animal.

  2. BUYERS beware of breeders from out of your area, whom you send money to and then never receive the animal. This has been done from sellers out of the United States. Escrow companies are best for buying out of your area.

  3. SELLERS beware of people offering to buy your animal for more than you are asking, and then wanting to get your bank account information to send the money to. Also, beware of people saying they want to buy your animal and ask for any information such as your name, address, etc. so they can send a money order. Do not give out any personal information. Ask for their phone number, and talk to them directly. Again, an escrow company is best.

TIPS ON BUYING A PET
Buying a pet is entering into a serious commitment. By planning ahead, and doing some research into the pet you are considering, can make a big difference. Here are some things to consider beforehand.
  1. Am I buying this pet impulsively? Just because you saw a movie with a certain type of animal and fell in love, doesn't mean you should go out and buy it. We all know about infatuation, and that is not a reason to buy a pet. It is unfair to that animal, and in the long run will make you miserable. Avoid impulsive buying.

  2. Is this the right pet for me? Take into consideration temperament and disposition. You want to be able to get along with the animal you are buying. Also, think about your lifestyle. Will you be able to meet the needs of your pet while maintaining the lifestyle you enjoy? Research any breed thoroughly before buying.

  3. Can I properly house this pet? If you cannot provide the adequate space this animal needs, or give it proper shelter, then you should reconsider.

  4. Do I have the time to give to this pet? Consider first, the time commitment this animal will require. It is unfair and cruel to own a pet only to leave them locked up all day. Most breeds of animals do not like to be all alone. If you have little, if any, time to devote to a pet, consider a fish over a dog.

  5. Can I afford this animal? The initial cost of purchasing a pet is only the beginning. Take into consideration the monthly cost of feeding your pet properly, immunizations and worming, and unexpected medical bills.

  6. What needs do I want met by owning this pet? Think seriously what you want out of this relationship. If you want to go for quiet trail rides, you don't want a high strung thoroughbred. If you want a dog that will sit on your lap and you can nurture, you don't want a large hyperactive dog. Really consider what will truly make you happy.

  7. Do I want a high or low maintenance pet? If I don't want to be brushing a pet daily, I might want to consider a short hair pet. Also, some types of animals shed more than others. This could be an issue for you.

  8. Am I really committed? Animals live a long time. Think if you are really ready to make that commitment. If you are not, you might want to wait. If you are ready, you will find that animals can add so much to your life. With their unconditional love, warmth and companionship they can really help lighten our lives.
Now that you have thoroughly thought about what type of pet you want. Carefully check out the breeder you are considering purchasing a pet from. If possible ask what veterinarian they use and call to find out if they can tell you anything about the health of their animals. Find out as much as you can about the parents health history. There are breeders who continue to breed animals that should not be bred. Also, see what type of guarantee the seller provides and what if any immunizations have been given. Another good idea is to ask for references.
